Annie Stevens
Annie Stevens, 23, originally from Houston, Texas, holds a master’s degree from Rutgers University and a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University. Ms. Stevens will be studying abroad during the winter months as a gasthorerschaft (guest student and teaching assistant) at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold, Germany. While in residence, Annie will give masterclasses and teach private lessons while also studying with Peter Prommel, a renowned percussionist and timpanist throughout Europe.
Annie has made numerous appearances at recent events around the country. As a featured xylophone soloist, Annie performed both at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California and with the Rutgers Percussion Ensemble at St. Bart’s Cathedral in New York City. She also just completed a tour as a guest member of the Air Force Band of Mid-America and performed marimba transcriptions of piano works by Alexander Scriabin at the Russian Embassy in Washington D.C.
Annie has been a part of many performances at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention from 2002 to 2005. In 2004, Annie was a finalist in the PAS classical vibraphone competition and performed at the convention in Nashville, Tennessee. Other concerts at the convention include a performance with marimba soloist, She-e Wu, and with both the Northwestern and Rutgers Percussion Ensembles’ showcase concerts.
Annie performs extensively with many chamber groups engaged in commissioning new works as well as participating in educational outreach. An advocate for new music, Annie has premiered numerous solo and chamber works as a member of Helix!, a scholarship group dedicated to performing new music at Rutgers University. As a clinician and guest artist, Annie appeared with the Spindrift Percussion Group at the University of Arkansas in 2005. She has also brought the sounds of percussion to the classrooms of many grade schools in New Jersey and New York as a member of the Exit 9 Percussion Group.
Annie has attended the Apsen Music Festival, the National Orchestral Institute, and the Music Academy of the West. Her teachers include Alan Abel, Michael Burritt, James Ross, and She-e Wu. Annie also appeared in the debut concert of the Metropolis Ensemble.
