Bird’s Eye is the latest project from saxophonist and composer David Leon with Doyeon Kim on gayageum and Lesley Mok on drumset & percussion. Inspired by the folkloric musics of Cuba and Korea, the compositions weave rigorous ensemble writing and guided improvisation to investigate collectivity. As a recipient of New Music USA’s 2021 Creator Development Fund, Bird’s Eye will workshop new compositions during a series of residencies to be completed by year’s end.

Altogether, the trio moves seamlessly between rigorous composition and thoughtful improvisation, traversing diverse landscapes and creating complex counterpoint between their distinct voices.

Metropolis Ensemble’s COVID PROTOCOLS for Rivington

We’re beyond thrilled to host you in our space after more than a year away. To make sure this in-person experience keeps you, our staff, and our performers safe and healthy, we are requiring all attendees to follow our Covid-19 guidelines. We will be updating our Covid-19 policies to keep in line with official guidance, this version has been updated August 4th 2021. Please contact info@metropolisensemble.org if you have any questions or concerns.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE

Once doors open a half hour before the performance start time, our front of house staff will check your ticket and proof of vaccination at the exterior door. Once checked in you’ll be able to enter the space.

In addition to having your ticket or QR code ready when you reach the door, you will also be required to provide proof of full Covid-19 vaccination and a photo ID. IN ALIGNMENT WITH CDC GUIDELINES, FULL VACCINATION INCLUDES 2 WEEKS POST FINAL DOSE.

If you do not have either of these pieces of information, we will not be able to admit you. Our front of house staff will issue a full refund for your ticket.

ACCEPTABLE PROOF IS ONE OF:

  • Excelsior pass, offered by the State of New York here

  • -A CDC Covid vaccination card

  • -A clear photo of your CDC card which shows your name and date(s) of vaccination

  • -Other electronic record of vaccination that includes name and date (e.g., some chain pharmacies have an app with this information)

In all cases the name on the vaccination record must match that on your ID. All staff and performers will also be vaccinated. You are, of course, welcome to continue wearing a mask.

Shows will be running at reduced capacity. Those will be noted in the event descriptions.

WEARING A MASK INDOORS

Because of an increase in Delta breakthrough cases, we are requiring that everyone be masked. We have masks available at the door and inside the venue if you need one!

Performers are encouraged to be masked when backstage or in the house but are not required to wear their masks onstage. All staff will be masked.

OTHER COVID SAFETY MEASURES

Before and after each show, our staff sanitizes chairs, bathrooms, and any other surface our audience or performers come in contact with. We’ve also just installed brand new MERV-13 filters in our air filter system.
