Celebrate the release of Emily Wells’ new full-length album This World Is Too _____ For You featuring Metropolis Ensemble in a live performance of the full record (with percussionist Shayna Dunkleman) at Brooklyn’s now-iconic House of Yes.
Wells ("boundless imagination”, The New Yorker), a frequent Metropolis Ensemble collaborator, is a multi-instrumentalist, classically trained violinist, composer, and producer known for creating “extraordinary…gospel folk-music that’s immersed in secular desires and experiences” (NPR)
Wells completed the album through a commission with Metropolis Ensemble, who also join Emily on the album (along with drummer Shayna Dunkelman (Xiu Xiu, Peptalk)).
This project began when Metropolis violinist Francisco Fullana and member of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra’s catalyzed the commission of several new pieces and arrangements for their Liquid Music Series, with composer Michi Wiancko for String Quintet and French Horn, which made up a portion of the album and premiered in 2017.
This World Is Too _____ For You exists as a neoclassical chamber music and art pop creation, propelled by synths, strings, and beats, and held together through Wells’ un-wincing lyrics and vocals.
The full album was recorded in studio at The Garden in Williamsburg with Metropolis Ensemble and officially releases on March 22 on Thesis & Instinct Records.
