Asher Herzog (b. 1995) is a Baltimore based drummer, composer and improviser whose primary interest lies at the intersection of composition and improvisation. An active leader and sideman, Herzog approaches every performance with the intent of creating powerful moments within the ensemble. His diverse musical output as a performer is pervaded by his grounding in technique and style, compositional approach to improvising, and his unrelenting search for new and exciting sonic territory.  As a bandleader, he strives to inspire the ensemble with compelling compositions that serve to inspire and inform the unraveling improvisation. By doing this, each individual composition elucidates itself to the ensemble in real time, breathing new life into repertoire that may have been performed many times before. This method of composition allows him to express his artistic idea, as well as providing an egalitarian music environment that makes the other members of the ensemble invested in its execution.

Herzog is a recent transplant to New York City, deciding to move after feeling many years of feeling like it was the place most likely to allow him to take the next steps in his career. He has an undergraduate degree from Towson University where he studied with Frank Russo and Dave Ballou, and Is currently in pursuit of his graduate degree from the New School where he is currently studying with Kate Gentile.

He has performed with Billy Martin, Wendy Eisenberg, Dave Ballou, Drew Gress, Ellery Eskelin, John Dierker, Derrick Michaels, and Adam Hopkins, among many others.
