I Cheng Liu

I Cheng Liu has appeared across Taiwan as an outstanding soloist and as a chamber musician. Born in Changhua, Taiwan. I Cheng began his cello lessons at the age of thirteen. After attending Municipal Datongguomin Junior High School and Taichung Municipal Cingshuei Senior High School, I Cheng started to participate in many music contests and earned great results.  

Starting in 2015, I Cheng won his own country's National Music Competition four years in a row in the Cello and Piano Trio categories. "Unlike the other students, his performances and interpretation are more than merely playing notes; he can clearly communicate his passion and enthusiasm in his music." I Cheng then studied with Los Angeles Philharmonic Assistant Principal Ben Hong and participated in masterclasses with Lynn Harrell, Jens Peter Mainz, Li Wei Qin, Danjulo Ishizaka, Francis Gouton, Kenneth Kuo, Monique Heidema, Rhonda Rider, Lue Chao-luen, Chen Wei-ping, Liu Shu-zhuan, Ouyang Lin-yi, Jo-Chan Lin, and Lee Meng-Po He also spent several years as principal cellist of the Datongguomin and Cingshuei Symphony Orchestras, as well as traveling the world with the Asian Youth Orchestra.
I Cheng has also performed at the Taipei Music Academic Festival, Mozarteum Music Academy at Mozarteum University Salzburg, Borromeo Music Festival in Switzerland, Konturen International Concert, and Music Festival at Bruhl, and National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra (NTSO) International Youth Orchestra Summer Festival. I Cheng received a full scholarship to the Taipei Music Academic Festival twice in a row during the 2019-2020 season. in 2019, he was featured on the Chimei Museum's Performance stream, sharing the stage alongside famed cellist Lynn Harrell and violinist Cho Liang Lin.


I Cheng currently studies at The Juilliard School under the guidance of Joel Krosnick. He continues to share and perform both western and eastern music with people around the world, in hope of further enhancing the recognition of our national brand equity and contributing to the continued success of our culture and people. In addition to music, I Cheng also enjoys arts,  such as painting, drama, photography, and pottery.
