LIFE SUPPORT Playlist

This is a smattering of what I listen to when I need emotional inspiration - majority WOC, but not exclusively so. Each artist creates a ferociously beautiful Sonic Universe in which I want to live and breathe. I'm especially drawn to Georgia Anne Muldrow and Laura Mvula, melodically and spiritually - I see their work as temporary high-energy encapsulation - one can only conscientiously strive to hold it on a second-by-second basis. Which brings me to the goal of this post. I have been offered a modest and much-appreciated fee to make this playlist, and although I could certainly put it to use in my own world, I plan to divide it evenly between one Local and one National Black-Led Fund that will support the still-ongoing fight for Black Lives. I encourage you, before/during/after listening, to read this article that gives a set of guidelines for philanthropic investing in Black-Led Social Change and Racial Justice Work, allow yourself to float down the rabbit hole as you research for local-to-you (how local can you get?) and National-based organizations which satisfy those guidelines to then invest in, yourself. Read Ibram X Kendi's book How to be an Anti-Racist, and consider that each day we are given the choice: to live passively accepting the "way things are", or to conscientiously take action toward change. I want to live in a ferociously beautiful Universe where BIPOC no longer have to fight to MATTER, and this is one of many ways I can support the necessary transition.
