Toru Takemitsu: “Distance de Fée” for piano and violin
Performed by Tomomi Sato and Maki Omori

Pianist Tomomi Sato and violinist Maki Omori perform Distance de Fée by Toru Takemitsu for their House Music series video. Sato has been collaborating with Metropolis Ensemble since she curated a concert for their festival “In Visible Roads,” which unites piano music across different genres, styles, and eras. This is her second House Music series video—her first was a presentation of “Barcalore on Autumn” from Pleiades Dances VI by Takashi Yoshimatsu and “Gemini” from Makrokosmos (Volume I) by George Crumb. Sato was inspired to choose Takemitsu’s Distance de Fée for this House Music series video because she’s recently been reconnecting with her roots. Over the past year, she’s spent a great deal of time in Japan, which has led her to dig deep into the country’s culture. After a chance score shopping spree, she fell in love with Takemitsu’s music, and dove into learning it. She and Omori perform Distance de Fée from Nagoya, Japan.
