Education Programs
Metropolis artists partners with local schools in New York City to bring our ambitious music and composition education programs to life.
Each classroom and afterschool program encourages music appreciation, creativity, and self-expression through the art and craft of composition.
Class time is devoted to listening, discussion, score analysis, and visits from distinguished guest composers and contemporary music specialists.
After months exploring melodies, rhythms, and chord progressions, students have the opportunity to hear their original pieces performed live by Metropolis artists.
Youth Works Concerts
Metropolis has presented newly commissioned works from middle school composers at concerts and workshops.
Events have been held at schools and venues, including Le Poisson Rouge, Symphony Space, Merkin Hall, Kaufman Music Center, The Players Theater, One Rivington, Riverside Park, and Little Red School House.
These young composers' musical imagination ranges widely, from klezmer-dubstep remixes and electronic experiments to fugues, operas, and symphonies.
